Mirlande Wilson

When it was rumored that the Maryland Mega Millions winner had been found, and that she was claiming she matched all six Mega Millions winning numbers from the March 30, 2012 drawing, no one ever expected the controversy that would follow.

Mirlande Wilson, a Baltimore, Maryland resident and McDonald’s employee, is at the center of the Maryland Mega Millions mess claiming she has one of three Mega Millions jackpot winning tickets. 15 of Mirlande’s co-workers beg to disagree. In fact, they’re quite heated about the whole thing! Her fellow co-workers say they put their money together in a lottery buying pool, had all the tickets copied and put in a safe for safe keeping. At the end of the night, Mirlande Wilson’s boss asked her to go to the 7-Eleven store and buy $5 worth of additional tickets for the workers. This is where it gets real sticky… Mirlande says she also purchased a ticket for herself, and that’s the ticket that won one of three Mega Millions jackpots worth $656,000,000 on March 30th! The other two tickets were sold by the Kansas Lottery and Illinois Lottery. The lottery winners will be splitting the jackpot equally.

It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if Mirlande kept quiet about it since Maryland is one of the few states that doesn’t require a lottery winner to identify themselves. A Mega Millions lottery winner in Maryland can claim lottery prizes anonymously. However, Mirlande Wilson was reported to have been bragging that she was the Maryland lottery winner.

If Mirlande Wilson does indeed have the winning ticket, her McDonald’s co-workers say they’re entitled to a piece of the $218,600,000 Mega Millions jackpot ($105,000,000 cash) that’s coming to them. Now Mirlande says she’s scared and confused.

MSNBC.com reported Wilson exclaiming, « McDonald’s don’t have nothing to do with this. They don’t have nothing to do with — they don’t even know about it and they don’t even have nothing to do with this … It’s only us by ourself (sic). »

« I’m so scared, » Mirlande Wilson told NBC affiliate WPTV.com, as she refused to reveal her ticket. « I’m so shocked, I don’t know what’s going on. »When an NBC reporter asked, « Where’s the ticket? » Mirlande Wilson said, « I can not tell you. »

Does Mirlande Wilson have the winning ticket? Is she the rightful Maryland Mega Millions winner or not? Everyone wants to know. Her co-workers want to know. Maryland Lottery officials want to know! »We’ve heard it’s somebody’s cousin, we heard it’s somebody who works up the street, the guy who mows the lawn, the lady at the McDonald’s, » lottery official Carole Everett told NBC affiliate WPTV.com. None of these claims matter, she said.

Maryland Lottery officials say, « Despite numerous rumors to the contrary, no one has come in to claim the prize. We will announce when we have a confirmed winner. » Until then, it’s anyone’s guess as to who the real Maryland Mega Millions winner is! Is it you?
