New Jersey : Irvington voters should re-elect Mayor Wayne Smith
Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith deserves another term
Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith is being endorsed by New Jersey’s oldest weekly newspaper, NJ TODAY , for an unprecedented fourth term in office.
Mayor Smith’s bold, innovative leadership has yielded significant progress for the people of Irvington, many of whom he has protected against foreclosure by using eminent domain to stop greedy banks from robbing working families out of their life’s savings.
The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union recently called on the federal government to protect Irvington and other municipalities against financial retribution as they try Smith’s strategy of employing eminent domain to short circuit the foreclosure crisis.
Smith developed the tactic, which allows the local government to restructure underwater mortgages and allow homeowners to make affordable monthly payments, in response to the wholesale greed exhibited by America’s largest financial institutions after they were bailed out by taxpayers at the end of the Bush administration.
Smith’s leadership has been recognized by his colleagues, who selected him to lead New Jersey’s urban mayors, and by the public, who strongly approve of his performance on the job and admire his courage in standing up against political power brokers.
Irvington voters should re-elect Mayor Wayne Smith when they vote on May 13.
