(Brooklyn, NY) – Council Member Mathieu Eugene will be hosting a press conference today at 3 PM
with Gama Droiville and members of his family at Kings County Hospital Center. They will be joined
by community leaders who want to see an end to the gun violence that continues to plague many of our
city streets.
The press conference will take place immediately following Gama’s discharge from the hospital where
he has been receiving medical treatment since Monday, April 14, 2014. At approximately 12 PM that
day, at least 7 gunshots were fired at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Beverly Road in Flatbush,
Brooklyn. Gama, 13, an innocent bystander, was hit twice in the head, including once in the right eye.
On Thursday, April 17, the alleged gunman was apprehended by police and arraigned the following
evening in Criminal Court in downtown Brooklyn.
A 24-year-old man, the individual police believe was the intended target of the shooting, was treated at
Kings County Hospital Center for a gunshot wound to his leg and was soon released. Gama underwent
surgery soon after the shooting in an effort to restore vision to the damaged eye.
