STAMFORD, CT – Planning Board Chair Theresa Dell today announced that the Board has scheduled the last in its series of public workshops on the Master Plan Update, on which they have been working for the last year. The Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria, 4thfloor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard, Stamford. At that time, consultant BFJ Planning will present preliminary recommendations contained within several draft chapters of the Master Plan that are scheduled to be available for public review as of Monday, April 14 on a website dedicated to the Plan,  http://stamfordmasterplan.org/ . Website visitors can subscribe to receive automatic updates when a public hearing has been scheduled and when additional draft documents have been posted to the site. The Master Plan is a key policy and planning document that will inform the course of planning and development in Stamford over the next ten years.

As part of the workshop on April 22, representatives of the consultant team will be available in an ‘open house’ format for informal discussion about their draft recommendations with interested parties. “The Planning Board has been very happy that so many people have participated in the planning process”, Board Chair Dell commented.  “Residents, business leaders, community organizations, property owners and other Stamford stakeholders clearly have a great deal of interest in how the City plans for its future. The public’s input has definitely shaped the results we are now seeing in the early drafts of the Plan that are under review”.

The draft chapters that will be discussed at the workshop include:

  • Stamford Today (Demographics/Land Use and Zoning)

  • A Regional Center (Economic Development/Transportation)

  • Neighborhoods

  • Housing

  • Proposed Land Use Plan

“We would like to thank the public for their dedication and participation in the Master Plan, and we invite them to join us on April 22 as we move closer to developing our draft plan for the City”, added Chair Dell.

Following the input received at the upcoming workshop, a draft of the Master Plan will be finalized and posted for public review around mid-May.  A public hearing on the Plan has tentatively been scheduled for June 17, 2014.

This planning project is being carried out by the City of Stamford Planning Department in conjunction with the consultant team of BFJ Planning, Perkins Eastman, Urbanomics and Stantec. In addition to the series of public workshops, the consultant team conducted meetings with local agencies, departments, nonprofits and business groups to get a better understanding of the development history and issues facing Stamford.
