Editor’s note :
I had a nice and lengthy conversation with Samyr last week about his being chosen as Sportsman of the year by the Haitian daily newspaper Le Matin and also about his plans for 2013 in his quest to win a medal for Haiti in the next olympics. If you have been following Samyr’s career on Haiti Infos, you are certainly aware of his unsuccessful attempts to secure funding from Haiti based companies like Digicel and others and the Haitian government. In our conversation with Samyr, we at Haiti Infos promised our olympian to launch a fundraising campaign in our community to enable him to continue his career without having to worry about paying his bills and to help him face the astronomical costs associated with his training and participating in contests all over the world on behalf of Haiti. We will be meeting soon with Samyr in Virginia to iron out a plan to marshall direct support from our community.Watch out for Samyr’s appearance in your city sometime in 2013. Stay tuned. (kgp)
Greetings Everyone,
I pray that 2013 is treating you all well thus far. I’m writing this brief note to just express my thanks to all of you, my supporters. I was selected as Le Matin’s Sportsperson of 2012 last month and this was a reminder to me both of how great a year 2012 was but also how much harder I must work for this year. I was able to finish 11th at the Olympics and ranked top 15 in the world in 2012 with God’s grace and all of your uplifting words, prayers and encouragement, so thank you. Let’s keep climbing though.
I do what I do to hopefully shed some positive light on our country and its people and to teach our youth to attempt the impossible, to never set limits on yourself and to never, ever give up. That is the reason I really enjoy when I get to speak to audiences or meet young Haitians and Haitian-Americans who may just need some words of encouragement to set them on the path towards their goals or dreams. It is also the reason I work as hard as I do, grinding on a daily basis to be the best I can be and represent Haiti as best I can. 2012 was mostly successful but it was only the beginning and though the Olympics are behind me and my teammates, this year is important as well with the World Championships, Central American and Caribbean Championships and Francophonie Games.
Definitely stay tuned on Haiti Infos, Facebook, Twitter or wherever and believe me when I say, we’re only going up from here! Thank you once again.
Love and Blessings.
Samyr
